What counts as a digital product?
DigiBorder checks items marked as not requiring shipping in Shopify. This can include downloads, memberships, services and gift cards. It does not inspect product tags or file types, so your product shipping settings must be accurate.
What happens to physical products?
Physical-only carts always pass DigiBorder’s rule. For carts containing both physical and non-shippable items, you choose whether the rule applies. When enabled, a restricted billing country blocks the mixed cart until the affected items are removed or the rule no longer applies.
Does it use the buyer’s location or IP address?
No. The rule uses the billing country entered at checkout. It does not verify residency, detect VPNs, or compare IP and billing addresses. Buyers are not blocked by this rule before a billing country is available.
Does it handle tax or legal compliance?
DigiBorder enforces the country policy you configure. It does not calculate tax, determine your legal obligations, or certify compliance. You remain responsible for deciding where your products can be sold.
Where does the rule run?
The validation runs on Shopify’s checkout infrastructure. You configure it in the embedded Shopify admin app, and it continues running when the settings page is closed. It applies to checkout flows that support Shopify cart and checkout validation Functions.
Can I install DigiBorder now?
The public App Store listing is being prepared. Public installation is not available yet. The Open in Shopify button opens DigiBorder for existing installations. Once the listing is approved, new merchants will install directly through the Shopify App Store.
